Live Webinar

This webinar focuses on ways to engage and support family members who have a loved one with Substance Use Disorder.

Day 1 will focus on ways to help support parents, caregivers and other family members who are caring for youth and young adults with SUD. Topics covered will include: reframing addiction as a chronic family disease, understanding the impact of youth SUD on the family, identifying best practices to help families in recovery, and referring families to existing resources at the local, state and national levels.

Day 2 will focus on how to support children and adolescents when the parent, caregiver or other family member is struggling with addiction. We will explore multi-generational substance use in families, how parental substance use can impact child development, ways to engage families in treatment and recovery supports, and resources to support youth living in families with parental substance use issues.

This webinar is aimed towards anyone working with youth and young adults; prior knowledge is not required.

Participants who successfully complete both days will:

Understand how addiction and recovery can impact the family system.
Identify the various challenges faced by parents/caregivers of youth with substance use disorders.
Identify best practices for engaging and supporting family members caring for youth in recovery, including the CRAFT model.
Understand the roots of multi-generational substance use, and how to help break this cycle of addiction by supporting parents/caregivers in their own recovery.
Identify family recovery resources at the local, state, and national levels, for youth and parents/caregivers.
